INDIVIDUALIZED MAJOR (IMP)

IMP-101 SBU MAJOR PROPOSAL WORKSHOP (1 Credit)

This 1-credit course will be taken by Individualized Major students in the spring of their first year. It will allow the IMP director to better communicate with IMP majors as they complete their major proposals and also create learning community for IMP students who find it hard to connect with students in other majors.

IMP-201 EXPLORING INTERDISCIPLINARITY ACROSS SBU (3 Credits)

An introduction to various disciplines and to interdisciplinarity and its applications. Each week, a different faculty member will introduce an interdisciplinary research topic. The disciplines covered range from accounting, biology, business, education, history, journalism, marketing, math, philosophy, psychology, robotics, and sociology to theology. One course coordinator will guide students through the class and help them to connect the various disciplines and help them in writing interdisciplinary papers on their own.

IMP-301 INTERNSHIP (3-6 Credits)

Internship elective for the Individualized Major program consisting of least 4 weeks (app. 120 work hours) of work for 3 credits; any additional 2 weeks (app. 80 hours) will add one credit with a maximum of 6 credits for the course. Student will have to write a weekly reflection paper and a final paper (at least 10 pages) in the end.

IMP-401 IM SENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECT (3 Credits)

An independent study that will result in a capstone project that includes some reflection on the major experience as a whole.
