Broadcast Journalism, BA
The major in broadcast journalism takes advantage of our many industry connections and offers a structured way for students interested in broadcast-related careers to approach our curriculum. Students learn communications fundamentals through the core Jandoli School curriculum and also focus on broadcast-related classes.
The Jandoli School of Communications is home to the Bob Koop Broadcasting Lab, which is a newsroom and fully functioning television production studio located in the Murphy Professional Building. Since the lab's inception in the 1990s, hundreds of journalism students have enrolled in courses associated with the SBU-TV's production to gain professional experience that could earn them a career in a broadcast newsroom.
In addition, SBU-TV provides broadcast programming for Spectrum. The broadcast airs in the Western New York region from Cattaraugus County to Buffalo, reaching far beyond campus.
Additionally, we have dozens of alums who work professionally in broadcast journalism, including at the very top of the field at organizations like NBC News, ESPN and Fox News.
